What you need to know about the mask

How many lenses should there be in the mask? Many masks use multiple lenses (usually two) held together. These lenses are less susceptible to fogging than single lens masks. Therefore, it is better to take a mask with a double lens. What other parameters affect fogging? Some lenses are treated with a special anti-fog solution from the inside. These lenses must not be wiped clean! You can damage the applied layer. The best way to remove moisture from the inside is to bring the mask into a warm room and wait. Ventilation in the case also plays a role. Fresh air is usually drier than the inside of the mask, so ventilation carries excess moisture outside. However, too large openings let in too much cold. Adjustable ventilation is ideal. What color lenses do I need? The color of the lenses depends on the conditions of use of the mask: Transparent filter - designed for riding at night or in cloudy weather. Yellow filter - increases the sharpness of vision, in cloudy weather and fog, recommended for skiing in cloudy weather. Orange filter - Better visibility in fog, in ambient light conditions, plus anti-reflective effect. Pink filter - increases the brightness of colors, clarifies the visibility of individual relief details. The gray filter is very good in bright, sunny weather. Mirror Filter - Provides good protection from bright light, while eliminating glare well. filter - very good in bright, sunny weather. Bronze filter - great for riding on sunny days, but you can also ride in it in the evening. What should be the protection against ultraviolet radiation? If you are going to ride in bright sunny weather, your lenses should provide at least 95% UV cut-off. This problem is especially acute in the mountains, from about 2000 meters. Ultraviolet light reflects well from snow and stones, so it shines not only from above, but also from below. Even bad weather does not reduce the danger; you can easily get a retinal burn in snow or fog. High-altitude glasses of category IV should, for example, delay 100 UVA and B, and stop 94-96% (!) Of visible light - like a welder (by the way, glasses for welders in the mountains cannot be used - they delay only the visible range, for low light, the pupils will be immediately burned by ultraviolet light). Also, they should not leave gaps at the temples and around the nose. In the store, ask for a passport / instruction for the mask, it usually contains the parameters, including the ultraviolet delay. What if I am wearing optical glasses? When shopping for a mask, make sure that it does not interfere with your glasses when worn over them. What should I look for when buying a mask? Masks vary in size, shape and other parameters. Please note the following when purchasing: Peripheral Vision: Make sure the mask gives you at least 120 degrees of horizontal vision. This is necessary to control your route. Interchangeable Lenses: You will have to use the mask in different conditions. You will be uncomfortable with one mask. Therefore, you will either have to buy two masks (for a bright day and for the evening), or a mask with two lenses. The advantage of interchangeable lenses is that they take up less space. Disadvantages - possible problems (inconveniences) with the change of optics. Risk of breaking the case. What you choose is up to you. Helmet Use: Make sure the mask fits well over the helmet and does not dangle from the helmet. The mask should fit snugly enough to the face so as not to fly off at the most inopportune moment. Strap: Make sure the mask strap is easily adjustable in length and fits securely after adjustment. The strap should be stretchable enough to hold the mask against your face. And soft enough to touch so as not to chafe. Tight fit: the mask should fit snugly, without gaps, to the skin. Otherwise, wind and dust will blow in the cracks and the eyes will water. Upholstery: the part of the mask body, adjacent to the skin, should be covered with foam rubber or other soft material, so as not to press too hard and damage the skin if dropped. Convenience: the mask should not interfere with you and distract you while riding. A poorly configured mask will fidget, fly off and deprive you of its usability. Do you need it?
